After years of label reading and searching through Australian supermarkets and online stores, I’ve compiled a practical shopping guide of lower-sodium pantry foods to make grocery shopping easier.
Trying to follow a low-salt diet but unsure what products are actually low in sodium?
Instead of spending hours comparing labels, you can simply refer to this list.
What’s Inside the Guide
The guide includes:
• Low sodium foods
(less than 120mg sodium per 100g)
• Lower sodium alternatives
(products that contain significantly less sodium than typical options)
• Reduced sodium options
(items still above 400mg/100g but much lower than their usual counterparts)
According to Australian nutrition guidelines, foods labelled “low salt” must contain less than 120mg sodium per 100g.

Why I Created This Guide
When I was diagnosed with Ménière’s disease, reducing sodium became an important part of managing my symptoms.
One of the biggest challenges was simply finding products that were actually low in salt.
So I started reading labels, comparing products, and keeping a list. Over time, that list grew into this guide.
I hope it saves you time and helps make a low-salt lifestyle easier to navigate.

Potassium Warning (K⁺)
Some low-sodium products replace salt with potassium to mimic a salty taste. Where relevant, these products are marked with (K⁺) in the guide.
Potassium-based salt substitutes may not be suitable for people with:
• kidney disease
• heart conditions
• those taking certain medications (such as NSAIDs)
